Jurassic limestone
110 cm × 47 cm × 27 cm
Zehlendorf Cemetery, Berlin
Concept and execution: Laura Jatkowski
This gravestone was made from Jura limestone from the Altmühltal in Bavaria.
The silhouette relief on the side with two olive trees and the suggestion of waves is a reminder of the place where the deceased liked to sit and look out to sea.
How the rainbow fish came about is a longer story: Originally, a Christian symbol, possibly the Ichthys fish, was planned, which was the wish of the mother or grandmother. But the daughter doubted whether this would suit her father, as he had little connection with religion.
After some thought, the daughter of the deceased remembered a children's room lamp with a rainbow fish that her father liked very much. This fish was finally carved on the front of the stone in the style of the Ichthys fish.
